April 21 2021:
Marvelous Marvin Hagler, representing Brockton, Massachusetts, died last month from supposed natural causes. The internet lit up after former rival, Thomas “The Hitman” Hearns, made an Instagram post claiming that Hagler had just taken the Covid-19 vaccine which caused his death.
I had the pleasure to speak with Marvin Hagler’s son, James Hagler, who is now a boxing promoter. James declared that,
“We are still looking into the cause of death, and want privacy at this time regarding that. I just want to focus on his legacy for now.”
Aside from the obvious saddening news surrounding Marvin Marvin Hagler’s death, his son offered insight on what motivated Marvin to work so hard, and what his father’s legacy truly meant. Surprisingly, the man known for his “War” slogan written across his hat, wasn’t quite as intimidating outside the ring.
“I want my father to be remembered for his compassion. He truly believed that everyone is the same, no matter where they come from, and he always preached to remain hungry even when on top.” – James Hagler
We went on to discuss many stories regarding his childhood upbringing and future plans to grow his promoting franchise “James Hagler Promotions”. James emphasizes that he recommends fighters put their money into smart investments so that they can retire safely from the sport.
